Tip of the month:

Pruning lilacs not only help to keep a neat appearance it greatly impacts the overall health of the plant.  You should trim back your lilac immediately after it is done blooming.  With a hand clipper, snip off the spent blooms and any suckers that have spring up along the base of the shrub.  Next, trim large stems from along the center of the bush. This allows sunlight and air to circulate through the shrub, preventing disease.  Repeating these steps every spring will ensure a healthy, full shrub that will bloom year after year!
